“Violet blue” is the first tone of the blue colours listed in the RAL colour chart. RAL 5000 is the colour that the best known variety of the African violet plant possesses and is often described as a very pleasing blue. “Violet blue” plays a decisive role in the colour theory of the well-known printing technician Harald Küppers. According to Küppers, “violet blue” is one of the primary colours and only together with the light, bright cyan blue does it form the colour commonly described as “blue”. Incidentally, the complementary colour of “Violet blue” is yellow.
